Gift and I was engrossed in a conversation, when a young boy of about 6 years of age approached us.
He said: "Please, what is the different between Visa and Passport?"
We could not provide a quick answer, as we were so much into a discussion, earlier.
Right there, I felt as if the boy knew I am a Travel Advisor.

Oh Yes, that young boy was the muse behind this piece: Differences Between Visa and Passport:

Passport
This is a legal document which is used for personal identification during abroad travels. It is issued by governments worldwide to certify proof of identity and citizenship. The purpose of the passport is to certify the identity and nationality of the owner. It contains the owner's personal data: photo, name, age, sex, date of birth, place of birth, religion, citizenship, and profession.
Passport looks like a small booklet and has several blank pages for official documentation. It also provides details about the issuing authority, place of issue and date of expiry.
Types of Passport
*Official Passport: Also called service passports and it is issued to the government employees. The official passports are used for work related travels of the government employees.
*Diplomatic Passport: The diplomatic passports are issued for the consuls or diplomats for their work related travels. It is important to point out that diplomatic passports do not mean automatic diplomatic immunity. Also the owners of diplomatic passports have to obtain visas like every other citizens.
*Family Passport: The family passports are issued to the whole family. Not every member of the family gets separate passports. There is only one passport holder.
*Ordinary Passport: It is also called tourist passport and it is issued to the citizens who are planning to travel abroad.

*Fantasy Passport: Fantasy passports are not official documents. They only appear to be regular passports but they are representing countries that do not exist anymore or never existed in the first place.
The processing time for passport depends on the country and if you choose an expedited process you can get it soon.

Visa
On the other hand, Visa is an official permission in the form a stamp on your passport that is granted officially by a government official of the visiting country to enter, stay and transit in the visiting country. It grants you temporary admission to enter and stay in another country for a specific duration mentioned in the Visa.
 Types of Visa
*Student Visa: A student is a special endorsement that is added to a passport that governments issue to students who are enrolled at qualified educational institutions. This non-immigrant visas do not require the holder to obtain citizenship. And any prospective student seeking higher education in another country must obtain a student visa for that country.
*Business Visa: Business visa is issued for businessmen who travel to a certain country to engage in commercial activities.
*Tourist Visa: The tourist visa is issued for the purpose of touristic travels.
*Transit Visa: Transit visa is valid only for 5 days and sometimes less and it is issued for passing through a certain country to reach a third destination.
The processing time for a visa depends on the country and if you choose an expedited process you can get it soon.

7. Visa provides details like purpose of visit, duration of stay, numbers of visit allowed, expiry date. Passport has a photo of the bearer and details like name, age, sex, nationality, date of birth, place of birth, expiry date etc.

When to Use Them
Traveling to a foreign country, you will  have to show your passport to an immigration official, whether at the airport or at a land border crossing. This to verify if the information and movements on these documents are legal. Your passport will typically be marked with the date you entered or the date you are to leave by immigration official.
In order words, whenever we plan to visit another country for any purpose, it is very important we have the Visa and Passport. Without these two travel documents, we cannot enter and stay in another country. We are therefore advise not to carry a fake or illegal Visa and Passport.

Hope I've been able to convince and not to confuse you?smiles*
