Why Go On Pilgrimage?

A pilgrimage is a journey made to some sacred place for the purpose of seeking God. The Christian pilgrimages were started in places that are connected with the birth, life, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Muslim pilgrimages ritually act out the central principles of their faith, as hajj is one of the five essential practices of Islam. 
Pilgrimage is recognize as an important religious journey especially for a believer. Believers who go on pilgrimage or travels to this scared places are called Pilgrims. It is a time to encounter with the supreme, as we go towards what is holy and remaining focused on the opportunity of having a life-changing experience. 
However, most of us know When and Where the pilgrims landed but few of us know Why. Both Christians and Muslims go on pilgrimage but our discussion focus mainly on the reasons why pilgrims go on pilgrimage:

*RENEW THEIR FAITH/RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

    Most people go on pilgrimage to renew their faith and relationship with God. Some even said those scared places are best places to commune with God and seek forgiveness of sin. Going on pilgrimage is seen as the best time for prayers and self-reflection. Tours of such gives an everlasting impression that will inspire us for years to come.
     *FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD 
    24/7 people gather to offer thanksgiving and prayer request. This gives the avenue to also connect with like-minded people, who follow the same spiritual part. And as they fellowship with God, it is an opportunity of having a life-changing experience. God should always be invited to all the gatherings of believers. We should be aware of HIS presence with us everywhere and at all times, and make HIM know HE is wanted. 
    *DIVINE GUIDANCE
   It prepares us for higher and higher levels of spiritual perception. We understand more about our existence and attain new or deeper perception about some of the purpose of our creation. Through this assistance, we begin to experience the divine and the spiritual progress that we are making.
     *SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE
     Our association and fellowship helps by sharing spiritual knowledge with the people we meet there. As we study in such spiritual vibrant holy places, it gives us deeper understanding of how to live a spiritual lifestyle. This is important for us in order to align our lives in a similar manner so we can also make spiritual progress. The pursuit of spiritual wisdom is good for human trinity (mind, spirit, body).

Service to God brings Joy 

Our service to God brings joy to us and HIM. The pursuit of personal pleasure, without serving God doesn’t satisfy. Serving God is not the obstacle to joy, but is where to discover joy. Undoubtedly, serving God will be challenging, but there is nothing that can bring greater joy. Because nothing else that you can do will impact eternity like service to God and our faithful service yields greater kingdom roles and opportunities.
Those opportunities generally cause us to grow in and with God, as He equips us for new challenges. Let us learn to be faithful to serve in what God has called us, and try to avoid comparing our calling with someone else’s.

Sure we now know Why we go on pilgrimage apart from sightseeing (the wonders of God).
